Mole concept notes in chemistry: The mole is the unit of amount of substance in the SI system, representing 6.022 × 10²³ particles (Avogadro's number).
- Mole: Amount of substance containing as many particles as there are atoms in 12g of carbon-12.
- Avogadro's Number: 6.022 × 10²³ particles per mole.
- Molar Mass: Mass of one mole of a substance (g/mol).
- Empirical Formula: Simplest ratio of atoms in a compound.
- Molecular Formula: Actual number of atoms in a molecule.
- Stoichiometry: Study of quantitative relationships in chemical reactions.
These definitions are from exam-centered definitions list. For more, see 2025 guide.
Detailed Explanations - Mole Concept Notes PDF Download
The mole concept bridges microscopic particles to macroscopic masses. For example, 1 mole of H₂O = 18g = 6.022 × 10²³ molecules.
Calculation tips: Number of moles = mass / molar mass; = concentration × volume; = number of particles / Avogadro's number.
For reactions, use balanced equations to find mole ratios. E.g., 2H₂ + O₂ → 2H₂O; 2 moles H₂ react with 1 mole O₂.

Tips, Tricks, and Fact Sheets - Mole Concept Important Notes
Tip 1: Use 'mole triangle' for conversions: mass, moles, molar mass.
Trick: For percentage yield = (actual / theoretical) × 100.
Fact Sheet:
- 1 mole gas at RTP = 24 dm³.
- Avogadro's law: Equal volumes of gases contain equal moles at same T/P.
- Limiting reactant: Reactant used up first in a reaction.
Cheat Sheet: Moles = V (dm³) / 24 for gases; Moles = c × V (dm³) for solutions.
Above: Mole concept cheat sheet for quick reference.
Above: Mole concept summary guide with tips and tricks.
Exam Tips and Timeline - Mole Concept Revision Notes
For mole concept gcse revision notes: Practice calculations daily; understand units (g, dm³, mol/dm³).
Common mistake: Forgetting to convert volume to dm³.
Study Timeline: Week 1 - Basics & Definitions; Week 2 - Calculations; Week 3 - Stoichiometry; Week 4 - Past Papers from IGCSE Past Papers.
